Although I was born in the Catskill Mountains of New York and lived all up and down the eastern coast of the United States, I settled about 30 years ago in Tulsa OK. I am an Impressionist oil painter.
When I am not painting for myself I am demonstrating oil painting techniques to my adult students. I work with the Tulsa Arts and Humanities Council’s Artist in the Schools program and am an artist in residence in a hospital’s Arts in Healing Program. I run an online gallery ( http://www.midwest-fine-art.com ) which features my work and that of other Oklahoma artists. I also have a blog at www.margaretaycock.blogspot.com.
Subject matter for my paintings includes landscape, seascape, still life, home portraits, portraits/figures, and interiors. I am probably best known for my floral still life paintings but recently had my painting, a landscape, “Sunset on the Tall Grass Prairie” chosen to travel with Paint America’s Paint the Parks Exhibition. I am an active member of an online Daily Painters group which has me painting a lot of one object 6x6 studies and mini landscapes.
I am an associate member of Oil Painters of America and am presently accepting a small amount of commissioned work in which I paint still lifes using several of my client’s sacred objects or family heirlooms. |
