Artist's Statement

I’ve considered myself an artist all my life. I drew horses as a teen, painted abstract expressionist oils in my 20s and since retirement have been painting landscapes (an a few horses) in pastel and acrylic. My favorite subject for the landscapes is where I live. I hope to have more than a few years left to explore the theme and strive for the unattainable “perfect” painting.

"Tenmile Sun Dance"

acrylic on stretched canvas

Tenmile Creek is just west of my home town of Helena. It starts on the Continental Divide above the old mining town of Rimini and empties into the Missouri River. I paint it regularly and this scene is near Rimini with the crystal clear water pooling among the boulders and the sun dancing along above and below the water.

Dimensions: 11" H x 14" W
$800 framed

"Shadow Brush"

pastel on mounted Wallis paper

Sunset at Nature Park, a city  park that is an old dredge site that has been left to grow and weather without interference. A wonderful place to paint.

Dimensions: 18" H x 12" W
$1,200 framed
