Ann is an artist and illustrator specializing in pet, animal and nature subjects rendered in scratchboard, watercolor, pencil and mixed media. She accepts commissions for pet portraits and enjoys working with devoted owners and their beloved animals. Ann is also a photographer - looking for unique perspectives of the natural world. She attributes her ability to achieve realism in her works to a lifelong interest in animals, nature and science.
A graduate of CSU, Sacramento, with a bachelor's degree in biology, Ann is a Signature member
(SSA) of the International Society of
Scratchboard Artists (ISSA), and a member of both the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the Canine Art Guild. Her work has been accepted into all three annual ISSA juried exhibitions to date
(2012 - 2014). Two of her drawings have won "Awards of Excellence" in ISSA exhibitions:
"Sleeping Patterns" (two tigers) in 2013 and "Cathy's Burrito Bouquet" (a plate full of burritos) in 2014.
Ann particularly enjoys working in scratchboard, although she creates art in other mediums also. Working in vibrant colors for her watercolor or mixed-media pieces gives her a break from the exacting detail of scratchboard or pencil drawings. At open studio and other art-related events, she offers demonstrations of her techniques and discusses her work. Ann also teaches classes in scratchboard and watercolor.
