Prescott, Arizona

Artist's Statement

I was born in Prescott, AZ.  The beautiful Southwest where I grew up has always been close to my heart.  I spent much of my youth exploring, hiking and riding.  Being raised in a rural setting and enjoying the freedom that I had to roam, instilled  in  me a deep and lasting love of this great American West.

I was always fascinated by the beautiful landscapes that surrounded me, and even though art was not a part of my life then, perhaps in some way I knew there would be a time that I would capture some of this beauty in some manner whether it be art or photography.  I believe that it is important to paint from your heart, paint what you know and love, and what inspires you.  My goal as an artist is to convey to the viewer the same feelings of joy and beauty that I feel when I experience these fleeting moments of a beautiful thunderhead cloud, the first or last light of the day, or a hushed and peaceful morning, or a glorious Southwest sunset. I am so grateful for the privilege of living where I do, and be able to experience the ranch life that we are blessed with.

I gather much of my material on the small ranch that my husband and I own and operate Northwest of Prescott. I began my artistic journey painting landscapes, and recently I ventured into other subjects as well.  The discovery of plein air painting has become a very important part of my training as well as workshops when time permits.

"I am thankful for those who have shared the gift God has given me through the support, purchase, or representation of my work."

This is a picture of my husband on one of his favorite horses.  I loved the colors I used in this, and so far a very popular piece.  It is a study for a larger piece.
