Peggy Trigg is a native New Mexican. She was born in Santa Fe and raised on cattle ranches outside Cerrillos and Madrid and later, Las Vegas. Her first home was the Palace Hotel in downtown Cerrillos. As a youth, she spent most of her time taking care of livestock, riding horses and tending to the chores common to ranch life. As a young woman, she attended UT in Austin in the Fine Arts Department and later graduated from UNM in Art Education.
“The landscape of New Mexico is what I treasure. I try to reflect my feelings for the landscape through the colors I use; most often I use strong, intense colors to reflect the high contrast of the light. This is what inspires me. I work in acrylic paint; enjoying the rich and pure colors. I am constantly trying to make my brushstroke dance in a way that reflects the energy of the land before me.”
