Tina Bohlman

Waxahachie, TX

Artist's Statement

A Texas native, and mostly self-taught, Tina Bohlman uses the mediums of watercolor and oil to create her breathtaking paintings and brilliant rural landscapes.  She cultivated her natural talent with great dedication and an insatiable desire to learn by supplementing her independent study through workshops with the country’s best artists, including Jill Carver, Bob Rhom, Jan Kuntz, Tom Lynch and Irving Shapiro (d-1994)

A veteran of numerous plein air and “quick draw” events, including, Plein Air Southwest–Outdoor Painters Society, Sedona Plein Air Festival-Sedona, Arizona, and Paint The Parks-Estes Park, Colorado,  she says, "I have been an outdoor painter my entire art career. Nothing compares for inspiration and capturing light and emotion. Every stroke must be without hesitation. It’s a marathon race with the sun; spirited, emotional….and exhausting. I love it!”

With this dedicated attitude, skills and talent, Bohlman has made quite an impact in her field.  Over the past forty years, she has earned more than 60 awards, including a dozen First Place and four Best in Show titles.  In addition to her WAOW signature membership, she hold signature status in Outdoor Painters Society (OPS), Artists Of Texas (AOT), Contemporary Fine Art International (CFAI),  and International Plein Air Painters (IPAP) Her work is collected worldwide with originals in private and corporate collections in 34 States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Portugal, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Republic of Benin-West Africa.

HAY MEADOW

"Hay Meadow"

oil on arches paper

I live just south of Dallas, Texas in a farming community – surrounded by hundreds of acres of crops and grassland so round bales of hay can be found in almost every meadow or open field.   Whenever I’m driving around looking for a good painting location, I often end up out in the middle of a hay meadow.

"High Plains Windbreak"

oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I love the high country – specifically the Rocky Mountains of Colorado & Wyoming.  Every season has its beauty, but when the trees begin to turn in early fall, the countryside is spectacular.  Out beyond the foothills, where there is a lot of open farm land, buildings are built within or near a tree line for protection during winter and provide cool shade in the spring and summer.

South Alley Street

"South Alley Street"

Watercolor

Not often is a plein air painting successful – but all the elements were in place for this one; time of day, lighting, and subject matter.  This is a back street in Terrell, Texas and the late afternoon light was perfect.  I set my easel up under the hatch of my SUV and once I completed the initial drawing, the painting went together quickly.  This is one of my favorite paintings.

Out on a Ledge

"Out on a Ledge - Geraniums"

Watercolor

I don’t consider myself a flower painter, but Geraniums are an exception.   The natural complement of red and green of this plant will beckon to any painter.   I decided to put the terra cotta pot on a window ledge to add a bit of interest.

Dimensions: 8" H x 10 " W
$500 unframed
